Searching For Events
Q: Can you choose any number of days?
A: Yes.
Q: Can you choose more that one island?
A: Yes. You may choose one, several, or all islands, however, If you are on one of the single island calendars, you will not have any other island choices.
Q: Can you choose more than one category?
A: Yes. You may choose one, several, or all categories.
Q: How does the text search work?
A: When you put a word into the text box, the database will search for that word within the categories you have selected above. You may want to check "all categories" when using the text search.
Q: If you put two words in the text search box, will the computer search for both of them, or one or the other?
A: The computer will look for both at once.
Q: What does, "Include Local Community Events" mean?
A: Local community events are events that are open to the public, but are aimed at a local audience. It is assumed that the majority of Visitors would not be very interested in these events. An example might be the Kaimuki Christmas Parade or a craft fair.
Q: What happens when you check the box for "Include Local community Events"?
A: Your search is expanded to include those events. You should always check this box when you are using a text search, because it does expand the search.
Q: What does "Great for Kids" mean?
A: These are either family oriented events, or events specifically for children.
Q: What happens when you check the box "Great for Kids"?
A: Your search is narrowed (within the other categories you have chosen) to only those that were submitted as "great for kids."
Q: What is the small box in the lower left corner?
A: This box selects the number of results you will get per page after you search.
Q: Can I change the number in the box?
A: Yes.
Q: Why would I want to?
A: It may be helpful to set this to a higher number when you are printing, but remember that the higher the number the longer it will take to perform the search.
Q: How are events displayed?
A: You may sort either by date or by island. Events which span the date range you entered will be displayed first. (e.g., If you entered October 3-5, an exhibition which began on October 1, and ends on October 15 would be displayed before events which are only on a date between October 3-5)
Q: Why does the form remember my settings?
A: The form sets a "cookie" which will remember your settings for 24 hours.
